Air India gets delivery of the Boeing 777

Air India had placed an order for 68 Boeing Jet airliners back in December 2005. It was the largets commercial airplane order in India’s civil aviation history. India is currently going through an aviation boom, both domestically and internationally.

Air India will use this 777-200LR to become the first India-based operator to offer direct, nonstop flights between the United States and India. It begins service to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport from Mumbai, India, on Aug. 1.

India needs more aircraft after Air India & Indian Airlines Merger

India is currently undergoing an aviation boom, with a host of new players in the game.
Kingfisher Airlines, Indigo Blue, Deccan, Jet Airways, Spice Jet are among the relatively new entrants that are entering the fray with new aircraft, superior service and competitive prices.

The fleet of the merged Air India-Indian Airlines entity is aging and needs new aircraft in order to compete. They have already placed an order for 111 planes worth over $10 billion. However, new analysis suggests that they may need 60 more aircraft.

Of these, at least 30 are likely to be wide bodied aircraft for which the options are Boeing 747, 777 and 787 apart from the Airbus A310 and Airbus 330s. For the narrow bodied aircraft, the options are Boeing 737 and the Airbus 320 family.

Either way, this is good news for both Boeing and Airbus, and of course the air traveller’s in India.

China & India are big emerging markets for aviation

China & India are the big emerging markets for aviation.

Air China and Aviation Partners Boeing have reached an agreement to assure Air China’s future deliveries of Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be equipped with Blended Winglets. The firm order for 25 shipsets scheduled to deliver from October of this year through 2010 provides Air China, the Airline Partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with the most competitive aircraft in the demanding Chinese market. With this order, over 240 737-NG aircraft in China will be equipped with winglets.

On the other hand, India is also having a strong presence at the 47th International air show in Paris. The tip seems to be that Kingfisher Airlines from India will make an important announcement at the event. Key players from Jet Airways (India), Air India and Air Deccan are also expected to be at the show.

My tip is: watch this space for more announcements!
